I had two conflicting bicycle-related offers this morning – one from Shani, and the other from Tim. Given that they share an email address, and use of a mobile phone (officially it’s Shani’s) it made me smile. Tim’s was a ’round the river’* leaving at 6am. Shani’s was as an add-on to Sarah’s invitation to a girl’s ride from South Beach to the Lefroy street farmer’s markets for breakfast leaving at 8am. I’d already spent Saturday mountain biking so had sluggish-feeling legs – and more importantly the start time was a bit more attractive. All I had to do was take a few pictures and not be too ‘male’.
Shani won.

We even made it out of the house in a timely fashion – after a surprisingly time-coordinated feed – only slightly marred by someone forgetting the nappy bag.

An easy, mostly traffic-free way to get to breakfast with plenty of nattering was had by all.
Thanks to Rebecca and Shani for inviting us. Tim arrived shortly afterwards, having thought better of excessive exercise in favour of some breakfast and company. The Lefroy Street Grower’s Market happens every Sunday morning from 8-12 midday.
*45-50km from Fremantle to Perth and back – out along one shore of the Swan river, and back along the other. Which way you go is a matter of habit and occasionally something as premeditated as the weather/wind. Early in the morning on weekends this is a practice of thousands of Perth cyclists – mostly logo/lycra clad, but sometimes by people in a less formal/polished mood (Tim and I fit in the minority category – great opportunities for the ‘game’ if we’re not in the mindspace to be overtaken).
